Good News: The Shad Return to Windsor Saturday

Not only is the Shad Derby Parade and Green Festival Saturday, but this year's celebration is set to be particularly memorable because the shad are returning.

Sure, it's said that "The Shad Always Return," but this year it's not just a catchy slogan -- real shad are actually returning to the green.

With the help of WIN-TV' Chef Renee, shad will be cooked and free samples will be given to those on the green Saturday.

Word on the street is Shad Cakes -- Windsor's take on the classic crab cake -- may be one of the samples given out.

Chef Renee's cooking demo will begin at 11 a.m., but festivities really kick off at 9 a.m. when the first 1,000 people on the green will be given a free derby.

Per tradition, a derby is passed from festival chair to festival chair each year, and each chairperson's name is placed in the brim of the hat.
