Storms Hosts Community Discussion at Windsor Historical Society

Residents joined Rep. Storms at the event to discuss the current legislative session and issues affecting state government in general.

From the Office of Scott Storms: State Representative Scott Storms (R-60) recently hosted a “Community Discussion” at the Windsor Historical Society.

Residents joined Rep. Storms at the event to discuss the current legislative session and issues affecting state government in general. As the Republican House and Senate caucuses had unveiled their budget proposal earlier in the day, many constituents inquired as to how the proposal would directly impact their community.

“Connecticut is in a very difficult position as we proceed with the state budget,” said Rep. Storms. “We need to address a $400 million current year deficit and a $5 billion deficit during the next two years. Tough decisions will need to be made to meet the new fiscal realities facing the State. The Republican budget proposal addresses the deficit, provides for essential core services, substantially restores municipal and educational funding, establishes a real spending cap and reduces the size of government. This is a serious proposal which deserves serious bi-partisan consideration.”

According to Rep. Storms, the Republican budget proposal for a "Confident Connecticut" would:

  1. Close the deficit without tax increases;
  2. Increase education funding within a new ECS formula;
  3. Substantially restore municipal aid cut by the Governor;
  4. Preserve core government services;
  5. Restore funding for social services and programs that benefit people most in need;
  6. Prioritize transportation needs and stabilize funding future transportation funding without tolls or new taxes;
  7. Lower taxes for middle class retirees and help seniors age in place;
  8. Streamline government functions and provide structural changes within State government.

“I appreciate the opportunity to discuss legislative concerns with my constituents,” Rep. Storms added. “It is extremely helpful to hear comments directly from people within the community so that I can better assess the discussions happening at the Capitol. I hope to continue these types of community forums in the future,”Rep. Storms concluded.
