Section Of Rt. 140 In East Windsor Expected To Open Over Weekend

The section of Route 140 in East Windsor that partially sank near Route 191 could reopen by midday Saturday according to a town official.

First Selectman Denise Menard said in a telephone interview Friday that the state DOT has laid the first layer of asphalt and is working on guardrails.

Menard said that state workers had to dig as deep as 27 feet to get to the root of the issue, which has caused problems for that stretch of road for some time.

"It's been such a long time that this has needed attention," Menard said. "It's been given the attention it needed and it has been done right. Although it's been a terrible inconvenience, we are lucky it has been rebuilt and done correctly."

Menard said that workers did not find a bulldozer that had been rumored to have sunk in that area.

In related news, the nearby East Windsor Farmers Market will take place as scheduled on Sunday, whether the repairs are completed or not.
