Water Main Repair Near Route 140 Causing Traffic Delays
The Windsor Locks Police Department said repair work on a broken water main at the intersection of Elm Street and Center Street should conclude this afternoon. The repairs are slowing traffic and causing delays at the intersection.
An early-morning water main break near Route 140 is being repaired, but the equipment and manpower needed are causing traffic delays around the intersection of Elm Street and Center Street.
Windsor Locks police said repairs should be finished Thursday afternoon. Repair crews were still hard at work in cold, wet weather at 3 p.m. Thursday. The possibility remains that repairs may not be finished by rush hour.
Elm Street was reduced to a one-lane road due to the break. Traffic on Elm Street and Center Street is moving slowly as repair workers, along with earth movers and other large pieces of machinery, attempt to fix the water main.

Windsor Locks police recommend avoiding the area until repairs are completed. Spring Street and North Street are both viable main roads that allow access to Routes 75 and 140, as well as many of the smaller streets that intersect with Elm Street. Center Street may be accessed via Church Street and School Street, but avoid the portion of Center Street between those two roads.
The hole accessing the water main is approximately 6 feet deep. It is situated at the edge of a residential property with a small front lawn, forcing repair crews to work in the road.
