Worker Killed After Being Pinned Beneath Car Carrier In East Windsor

Police said the victim was pinned beneath a car carrier on private property at a construction company's yard on North Road.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — A person was killed Tuesday after becoming pinned beneath a car carrier at a construction company’s property on North Road, according to East Windsor police.

Police Chief Matthew Carl confirmed by email that the fatal incident occurred on the Kement Construction property at 297 North Road around 6:45 p.m. The incident took place on private property, and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified, which is standard procedure in cases involving workplace-related fatalities.

"The deceased has been identified as 69-year-old William Hastings of East Windsor, CT," police said Wednesday morning. "There is no indication of criminal activity or foul play. This remains an active investigation."

Police said when officers arrived, they found the man "trapped under the right side of the cab portion of the vehicle, specifically between the dual wheels."

"Members of the Broad Brook Fire Department, the Warehouse Point Fire Department and the Enfield Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with the extrication," police said. "Once the male was dislodged from under the truck, he was pronounced deceased by East Windsor EMS. Initial findings suggest the male was performing maintenance underneath the truck cab when the vehicle rolled backward, trapping him beneath it."
