📰 News we're reading

1. 7 DE Admin. Code 1102 Natural Minor Permit Applications: Agilent Technologies, Inc. (delaware.gov) — State regulators are reviewing Agilent Technologies’ request to install new burn‑off ovens and related pollution‑control equipment at its First State Boulevard facility in Wilmington, with specific limits on VOCs and other emissions. Residents can review the application online and have until January 8, 2026, to submit written comments or request a public hearing on the proposed air permits.

2. Twice Injured Firefighter Loses Second Workers' Compensation Claim (claimsjournal.com) — A Wilmington firefighter’s second workers’ compensation claim was denied after Delaware’s Supreme Court ruled his 2023 back injury, suffered on a high-rise call in the city, was merely a recurrence of a 2015 injury. Because he had already taken a lump-sum settlement on that first claim, the decision leaves him without additional benefits and clarifies how similar Wilmington cases may be handled.

3. ChristianaCare, Virtua drop plans to create $6B health system (chiefhealthcareexecutive.com) — ChristianaCare, headquartered in Wilmington, has decided not to move forward with a planned $6 billion regional health system merger with New Jersey-based Virtua Health. Both systems say they can better serve patients by staying independent, even as ChristianaCare continues major investments and maintains a top-tier credit rating. The decision keeps Wilmington’s dominant health provider locally controlled while shaping future regional care options.

4. Economists say unit pricing is key to saving on groceries (delawareonline.com) — Shoppers around Wilmington are being urged to rely on unit pricing to stretch their grocery budgets as food costs keep rising. Using examples from local stores, a University of Delaware economist explains how comparing price per ounce or pound can reveal better deals than eye-catching sale tags. The piece also notes Delaware’s lack of unit-pricing rules compared with New Jersey’s stricter enforcement.

5. Maxwell Football Club names Delaware's Mini-Max winners (wdel.com) — A Wilmington Friends School football standout, Cooper Strauss, is among 46 Delaware high school players honored with the Maxwell Football Club’s Mini-Max Award for excellence on the field, in class, and in the community. All honorees now compete for Delaware Player of the Year and potentially the regional Jim Henry Award at a February ceremony in Pennsylvania.
