Holy Cross Health Invites Community to Lung Cancer Awareness Day Event on December 4

Learn About Advancements in Lung Cancer Screening and Early Detection

(Holy Cross Health)

Holy Cross Health invites community members to attend a free Lung Cancer Awareness Day event on Thursday, December 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of Holy Cross Health, 4725 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.

Representatives from Intuitive will share educational information about the Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy and low-dose CT, the only screening test proven to reduce the number of deaths from lung cancer by identifying lung cancer at an early stage when it can be cured.

The Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy uses low-dose CT technology to take many pictures of the inside of a patient’s chest and lungs from different angles and at much lower levels of radiation than standard doses of CT, making this diagnostic test a good choice for those at risk to identify lung cancer before symptoms appear and at an early stage when it can be cured.

Patients without health insurance who meet the eligibility criteria may schedule a lung cancer screening for $99. Eligible patients are between the ages of 50 to 80 years old; they currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years; and have a 20-pack year or greater history of smoking (pack years are calculated by multiplying the number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day by the number of years smoked). Any MD can write a script for a low-dose CT if the patient meets the criteria.
