Holy Cross Health Proudly Unveils Two Painted Panthers on the Prowl Sculptures

Statues raise funds for cancer research, patient services and advocacy programs

The Bienes Cancer Center at Holy Cross Health proudly unveiled two Panthers on the Prowl sculptures, named Beverly and Hope. One represents the brightness and abundance of life, while the other reflects Holy Cross Health’s mission as a Catholic organization and 70th anniversary of caring for the community.

Panthers on the Prowl is an initiative launched in collaboration with the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Florida Panthers President Bill Zito and his wife Julie. It merges art, community and philanthropy to raise funds for cancer research, patient services and advocacy programs.

In recognition of breast cancer awareness, “Beverly” is predominantly painted pink. She was donated by Jessica Burgers, MD, breast surgical oncologist at Holy Cross Health, and designed by Wynwood artist Mojo. The inspiration behind her design is the importance of keeping the faith while striving to beat cancer.

“The opportunity to blend art, our South Florida community and cancer awareness is a worthy cause. The team at ACS connected me with the artist Mojo. Although our careers are quite different, both of our mothers are breast cancer survivors,” proud “Panther parent” Dr. Burgers shared. “We found a commonality in our strong faith and connection with family that influences our work. Beverly, named for Mojo’s mother, has bright colors and floral pattern to represent the abundance of life. It has been beautiful to see this design and fun to see each patient’s positive interaction with the piece."

Meanwhile, “Hope” was co-created by Jorge Gitler, Executive Director of the Bienes Cancer Center at Holy Cross Health, and Hava Fishman, his partner and fellow artist.

“I chose to participate in this initiative because it offered a heartfelt opportunity to express my commitment to a cause that deeply matters,” explained Gitler. “We brought ‘Hope’ to life, not just as a sculpture, but as a symbol of healing, resilience and unity. Its design draws from the sacred stained glass and colors of the Holy Cross chapel, interwoven with pink to honor breast cancer awareness. Through this piece, we’re merging legacy with compassion, creating a shared space where our values and stories come together in support of those who continue to fight with courage and grace.”

Beverly and Hope can be seen throughout the hospital. Last month, the panther sculptures were featured at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Broward County and Florida Panthers’ PINK in the RINK Night at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.

Beverly and Hope will also each receive digital trading cards, posted on the Panthers on the Prowl Instagram account @panthersotprowl. Panther statues are still available for sponsorship. For more information, click here.
