11-Year-Old Manatee County Student Brings Gun To School

MYAKKA CITY, FL - A 11-year-old Manatee County student brought an unloaded gun to Myakka City Elementary School on Monday and he was taken into custody, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

School officials found an unloaded gun in his backpack after learning about the weapon about 8:45 a.m., authorities said. Deputies arrested the 11-year-old student and he was taken to the Juvenile Booking Facility.

The investigation continues as to how the juvenile came into possession of the handgun and why he brought the weapon to school, according to the sheriff's office.
