3 New Florida Coronavirus Deaths Reported On Sunday

Testing in Florida surpassed the million mark Sunday as Florida health officials reported only three new deaths.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Testing in Florida surpassed the million mark Sunday as Florida health officials reported only three new deaths, the lowest increase in one-day deaths since the coronavirus outbreak began.

The state reported 77 new hospitalizations as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 56,163.

Sunday's case total represents an increase of 739 new cases over the previous 24-hour period throughout Florida. The state's death toll from the virus rose to 2,451,up from 2,447 a day earlier.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, has been at the epicenter of Florida's outbreak along with neighboring Broward and Palm Beach counties. None of those three counties reported any new deaths on Sunday.

Together, those three South Florida counties account for 31,119 cases — or some 55 percent of Florida's confirmed total.

Two Florida counties reported the three new deaths Sunday compared to 34 new deaths on Saturday, 49 new deaths Friday, 45 deaths Thursday, 61 deaths Wednesday, seven deaths Tuesday, 15 new deaths Monday and four deaths last Sunday.

Duval County reported two new deaths. Leon County reported one new death. Miami-Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County did not report any new deaths Sunday.

Miami-Dade reported 18,000 confirmed cases of the virus Sunday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 7,123 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 5,996 cases.

Florida had a 5.5 percent positive test rate for the virus based on a total of 1,022,265 tests that had been administered as of Sunday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 10,190, up from 10,113 a day earlier.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 2,201 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 2,002 cases.
