Pittsburgh's mayor arrives in Bradenton on Wednesday, there are two opportunities to hear from a quilt storyteller on Wednesday at the Manatee Historical Park and

1.The Manatee County Commission meets today at 9 a.m. today. The agenda includes a new ordinance on secondhand metal dealers and secondhand scrap metal recycling.
2. Pittsburgh, Pa. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl arrives in Bradenton on Wednesday to spend a few days getting to know Bradenton, the winter home to the Pittsburgh Pirates. During his visit, Ravenstahl will tour the area and will meet with key leaders from the and Manatee County. On Friday the Mayor will give a presentation, Bringing Back Pittsburgh’s Promise, to the business community at Manatee Memorial Hospital in the auditorium. Last August, Bradenton and Pittsburgh created the “Two Cities” Alliance intended to enhance the cultural, sporting, educational and economic development opportunities available between the two destinations. Several representatives from the Bradenton area visited Pittsburgh for the official presentation.

4. will present Quilt Storyteller Jeanne Wright during two session on Wednesday. Wright is an award-winning quilter and interviewer for the Quilter's SOS (Save Our Stories) project through The Alliance for American Quilts. The national nonprofit organization, based in Asheville, N.C., supports and develops projects to document, preserve, and share the history of quilts and quilt makers. Wrigth considers herself a lucky quilter because of her awareness of many of the stories behind the quilts. In this “show and tell” talk, Jeanne will draw from her collection of over 100 quilts she has made. The lectures will be held at 1 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. in the Old Meeting House Church at Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Avenue East. Reservations can be made at (941) 741-4075.
5. O'Brien Family Farm will host an adoptathon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday in support of. Dogs and cats available for adoption will be at the event at 16505 State Road 64 East. O'Brien Family Farms also offers u-pick and we pick produce as well as milk shakes, smothies and strawberry shortcake.
