5 Things You Need To Know Today: February 6
The Manatee School board will meet in a budget worksession, the city and county will debate renovations to McKechnie Field and the Greek Glendi Festival begins this week.

1. The Manatee County School Board will meet in a budget workshop at 4 p.m. today. Board members will talk about the organizational chart, a reduction in construction services and corporate sponsorships.
2. County Commissioners will discuss an agreement Tuesday that requires it to share in paying for reconstruction and renovation of McKechnie Field, including new seats, increased capacity, boardwalk area in outfield, improved fan amenities, new concessions, and renovated restrooms. The proposed agreement says that the county will reimburse the City of Bradenton up to $400,000 a year for 20 years to pay the debt service. In turn, the Pittsburgh Pirates will promote Manatee County in the Pttsburgh market and the county will be able to use McKechnie Field free of charge.
3. The City Council will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday to discuss a bond for improvements to . The City Council will also consider a contract for a bridge replacement as part of the Wares Creek project.

4.The 28th annual Greek Glendi Festival begins Thursday at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church. 7671 N. Lockwood Ridge Road. One of the biggest draws — the food — features all the classic Greek recipes such as Souvlaki, Spanakopita, Lamb Shanks, Moussaka, Gyros and, new this year, Dolmathes, meat and rice stuffed grape leaves. In addition, expect a wide variety of the most popular Greek coffees, wines and pastries. The ELLADA Band will provide traditional Greek music throughout the festival. Hellenic Folk Dancers will entertain the crowd with traditional Greek dancing dressed in traditional costumes.
5. The students and staff at have set a goal of raising $2,500 for the Larry King Cardiac Foundation and Save-a-Heart. The school has planned an activity for each morning next week from 8 a.m. to 8:25 a.m. Activities are set for Monday: Decorating the sidewalk with pictures and words about living a healthy life; Tuesday: Special Runner's Club; Wednesday: Jump ropes; Thursday: Hoola Hoops for kindergarten and first graders and Capture the Chicken for second through fifth; Friday: Weekly Runner's Club. If the goal is met by Friday, the administration will provide a karaoke sing along.
