Bradenton's 5 Things to Know Today: April 23

The school board will meet tonight, the County Commission meets Tuesday morning and Patch will host an adopt-a-thon on Thursday.

1.The school board meets today at 5:45 p.m. to discuss several potential grants and a proposal to allow J.C. Penny to use for a photography session.

2.The Manatee County Commission will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. The agenda includes discussion on purchasing propety at Perico Bayou. Also on the agenda is a special recognition for who was recognized by the Tampa Bay Lightnning as a "Hometown Hero."

3. The meets Wednesday at 6 p.m. There will be a public hearing on a proposed plan for the 2012 Justice Assistance Grant.

4. Don't miss the at Manatee County Animal Services Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Look for adoption secials on cats and dogs. Training tips from a professional trainer and contribute food to the animal or to the food bank and be registered to win a $25 gift card to PetSmart.

5. The Fourth and Fifth Grade Chorus at for Communications and Creative Arts – along with some talented teachers and staff – will present “The Music Man” on Thursday and Friday at Rowlett.
