Rescued dolphin gets attention from a star, Bradenton Police pay special attention to probationers and South Florida Museum is recruiting volunteers for Snooty's 64th birthday bash

1. Actress and animal advocate Loretta Swit, known for her role as Hotlips on MASH, will visit a bottle-nosed dolphin today that was rescued earlier this month by three Bradenton residents. Swit will meet Mote leaders, researchers and animal-care professionals, and she will pay a special visit to the bottlenose dolphin “Edna,” a patient in Mote’s Dolphin and Whale Hospital that was rescued after stranding this month on Longboat Key. The actress is in town performing in "Love, Loss and What I Wore,” which runs through July 15 at the Asolo Repertory Theatre. 2. is looking for volunteers to help staff Snooty's 64th birthday party on July 21. The birthday party will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the South Florida Museum’s outdoor Spanish Plaza. The Museum hopes to build a stronger, ongoing fundraising program for the care of manatees utilizing the heightened awareness surrounding Snooty’s birthday.

3. will have a public hearing Wednesday at 6 p.m. on the Firefighters Retirement System, including issues concerning contributions, eligibility and benefit amounts.

4. A road closure along 38th Avenue West between 18th Street West and 19th Street West will take place Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

5. The and Manatee County Probation Officers will team up to conduct random, unannounced monitoring visits of current High Risk probationers that reside within the City of Bradenton. This long-term collaboration is designed to ensure that High Risk Offenders under the supervision of the Manatee County Probation Office are complying with their court imposed restrictions. The new effort is designed to help deter crime and  and to enhance the quality of life for our citizens, said Bradenton Police Captain Warren Merriman.
