Bradenton's 5 Things to Know Today: June 27

City Council to meet tonight, Debby's floods close some county roads and the county will lead a paddle clean-up of Robinson Preserve on Thursday.

1.The City Council will hold a public hearing on the Friefighters Retirement System tonight at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

2. County Road 675 (Rutland Rd) at Jim Davis Road and a portion of Jim Davis Road between County Road 675 and Golf Course Road have been closed by high waters from Tropical Storm Debby.

3. The county will host a paddle clean-up at Robinson Preserve from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday. What a great way to volunteer. Kayakers will paddle out to Manatee River to clean the riverside edge of Robinson. While not for first time paddlers, this is an easy paddle. Bags will be provided but you should bring a pair of gloves. Participants can bring their own kayak or use one of ten County sponsored kayaks available on a first-come, first-served basis. Children age 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult and wearing a personal flotation device. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 941-742-5757 ext. 7.

4. The Bradenton Marauders are home Thursday through Saturday to take on the Palm Beach Cardinals. Each game starts at 6:30 p.m. Visit www.bradentonmarauders.com for tickets or more information, or get your tickets at the McKechnie Box Office, 1611 9th St. W.

5. Get ready to photograph the newest preserve in Manatee as county employees organize the first public trip to Curiosity Creek Preserve for Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The tour is intended for serious photographers who want to help chronicle the site. The newly restored wetlands and oak hammocks are ready to be explored by adventurous souls so be sure to come prepared to hike through underbrush and muddy conditions. There aren’t any trails yet, but participants can enjoy a back country hiking and photography experience. This program is strictly limited to 10 adult participants. Reservations are required.
