Bradenton's 5 Things to Know Today: June 6

1. The Explorer Post pro­gram chartered by the Boy Scouts of America, is accepting applications. The Explorer Post  is a blend of scout troop, ROTC, and police academy. It emphasizes career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education and leadership experi­ence. Explorers participate in community service events, assist in decision-making for expendi­tures, raise funds, elect officers, attend train­ing, and compete against other posts in law enforcement scenarios. Members must be ages 14 to 20 and have suc­cessfully completed the 8th grade. They must maintain a minimum of a C average in school with no failing grades and be of good moral and ethical standing. The post meets from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday at the Bradenton Police Department District II sub­station at 1404 14th St. W. 2. You have until Thursday to get discounted tickets for the 6th Annual Bradenton Community Night with the Rays. Tickets are on sale at , 101 Old Main St. The game is 7:15 p.m. June 16 against the Miami Marlins. Party Deck tickets are $10 and Lower Left Field tickets are $18. 3. There will be a fireworks display after Sat­urday’s baseball game at featuring the Bradenton Marauders and the Jupiter Hammerheads. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Get your tickets at the McKech­nie Field box office, 1611 9th St. W.

4. , 4651 Cortez Road West, is partnering with Manatee County Habitat for Humanity for donations to help build homes for families in need. The Habitat ReStore Truck will be parked in the Publix store parking lot for the next two Saturdays between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to receive donations of household items, furniture, home improvement items and clothing to be sold in the Habitat ReStores. Donors will receive a gift card to Manatee Habitat ReStores, 1227 Hardin Avenue, Tallevast and 4105 Cortez Road West. Proceeds help support Manatee Habitat's mission to provide affordable and sustainable homes.  For more information about the ReStore call 355-7082.

5. The Bradenton Police Department is warning citizens of a possible utility scam reported by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The multi-state scam targets utility customers by promising a federal refund on utility bills and asking for social security and bank account numbers in order to get the credits..
