Bradenton's 5 Things to Know Today: May 16

Be served by a celebrity, enjoy lunch around the world and make sure you buckle up.

1. Meet Manatee's Movers and Shakers tonight as they work as celebrity bartenders at , 4310 SR 64 East to raise money for the Center for Building Hope. Tickets are $45 at the door. Jim Wilson, CEO Lakewood Ranch Medical Center; Todd Hoch, Vice President Private Wealth Management Suntrust; Sherod Halliburton, Executive Vice President Manatee Community Federal Credit Union; Bill Poulton Director of Operations, Tropicana; and David Gustafson, Executive Director Bradenton Downtown Development Authority will be among those serving as celebrity bartenders.

2.The Community Coalition on Homelessness will host a "Lunch Around the World" on Monday to raise money to help families at risk of becoming homeless. The lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the courtyard of the , 201 10th Street West. Individual tickets are $50 each.

3.The Manatee County Sheriff's Office will step up seat belt enforcement beginning on Monday in a Click it or Ticket campagn that will continue through June 3. A seat belt violation in Florida is $116 while child restraint violations are $166.

4. The Guinness World Records organization has informed the Manatee County School District that its recent collection of 29,560 pounds of plastic bottles has officially been approved as a world record for “Most Plastic Bottle Recycled” in an eight-hour period. Recognition of the record was emailed from Terje Purga of Guiness World Records to the Manatee School District’s Energy and Recycling Department. The record was set April 26, 2012 during the Manatee District’s 2012 Recycling Round-Up held at Sugg Middle School. Schools from around the district worked together, with event sponsors and the community to achieve the goal. The record was previously held by a group of schools in China who collected 19,400 pounds of plastic bottles in an eight-hour period

5. Road closure: 17th Avenue West from 17th to 22nd Streets West will close at 7 a.m. Thursday and remain closed through June 22. The road closure is required for utility work on 17th Avenue. Construction work will take place from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. Access and parking for the 17th Avenue Park tennis courts is available along 18th Avenue West.
