Bradenton's 5 Things to Know Today: May 17

Star studded events are prominent in May, the Bradenton Marauders staying home and don't miss today's memorial service to honor law enforcement.

1. The public is invited to attend the annual Manatee County Law Enforcement Memorial Service today at 10:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by the .  The service will be held at the , 1115 Manatee Ave. W.

2. Emmy-award winning actor and former U.S. Open and British Open Golf Champion Tony Jacklin will be on hand Friday when the 16th annual Phil Galvano golf tournament tees off at 1 p.m. at the Legacy Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch.

3. The closure of 11th Avenue West from 24th to 26th Streets West is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday for the repair of a sewer line.

4. The Bradenton Marauders play eight consecutive home games beginning today and continuing through May 24.  Monday through Saturday games begin at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. The Marauders host Dunedin today as they present the Cash Crawl. The team will give away $1,500. Fans may find cash rolled up in their hot dog wrapper, rolled up in the t-shirts fired into the crowd during the fourth inning t-shirt toss or fans may just be in a lucky seat to take home some cash. Three adults will win the chance to try to scoop up as many cash coins scattered around the field as they can. Each coin will be worth $1.

5. More than 300 middle school students and parents are expected take part in the 2012 Manatee Teen Summit Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Manatee High School. Syesha Mercado – a finalist on American Idol and a star in a national tour of the musical Dreamgirls – will be the Teen Summit’s Keynote Speaker. Sponsored by the “It’s yoUR Choice” grant partners, the Teen Summit is the culmination of the “It’s yoUR Choice” teen pregnancy prevention program’s activities for the 2011-2012 school year.
