Bradenton's 5 Things to Know Today: May 3
Friday night concert benefits Manatee High School, Participate in a mural painting on Saturday or enjoy food and wine on Pine Avenue.

1. Bradenton residents and students are invited to join the artist and his team of neighborhood muralists to help paint the 100 feet of panels of Life Choices Life Cycles. No experience or talent is necessary – just enthusiasm and two hours of time between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday. To sign up email publicart@ddabradenton.com with the time you want to paint. Painting will take place in the parking lot of the Police Substation at 14th Ave and 14th St. W. When completed the mural will be hung on the side of the Police Substation. Life Choices Life Cycles was designed in a collaboration between community artist Michael Parker and a group of rneighbohood residents and depicts young people who have to make choices about staying or leaving the community.
2. 25th Street West from Manatee Avenue West to 6th Avenue West will be closed from 9 a.m to 3:30 p.m. today for the repair of a sanitary sewer line.
3. Twenty-one restaurants and Southeast High School and Manatee Technical Institute’s culinary programs, will participate in the 2nd Annual Food and Wine on Pine event Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. on historic Pine Avenue in the City of Anna Maria. Food and Wine on Pine, is a culinary and cultural event established by restaurateur Ed Chiles at the city’s Pier Centennial in 2011. The goal was to showcase the variety of sustainable seafood and produce that local independent restaurants are using in their menu selections, highlight the unique and wonderful art and culture of the island and to support local art and children’s charities.

4. Don't miss the jams Friday night at the Davis Performing Arts Center at Manatee High School. The concert will feature Manatee High students performing in duos, trios, and full bands. The show will close with an all-star jam with members from local Bradenton acts like Big Daddy, The Skyway Jumpers, The Burghs, and Katalyst performing hits from Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Joan Jett, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Metallica. All proceedsbenefit the Manatee High School TV & Radio Production programs. Tickets are available in advance at the high school and at the door the night of the show. Sam Ash is sponsoring the show and will give away an acoustic guitar as a door prize Friday night.
5. Film Kids is interviewing students for it's upcoming summer program to be held in July at Braden River Elementary School. Students from third grade through ninth grade are invited to participate and no experience is necessary.Tthe interview process is designed to determine whether the student has a genuine interest in the filmmaking process, and allow them to ask questions about the program. Because space is limited, even former students must participate in the interview process for this upcoming session.
