Deputy’s Cruiser Collides With Man

A 61-year-old Bradenton man was hospitalized after he was struck by a Manatee County Sheriff's Office cruiser Friday morning.

BRADENTON, FL — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash involving one of its own.

According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy Sinclair Cason was driving south on Ninth Street West just before 6 a.m. July 7. As Cason neared the intersection of 21st Avenue West, “he happened to see the shadow of an individual crossing the roadway,” an email from the sheriff’s office said.

Cason swerved to avoid the person, but the right front quarter panel of his patrol vehicle hit the man, the email said. Cason stopped and notified emergency medical services.
