FL Reports 60 More Coronavirus Deaths As U.S. Reaches Milestone
Florida's death toll from the new coronavirus increased by 60 people Wednesday as the United States marked a grim milestone.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida's death toll from the new coronavirus increased by 60 Wednesday as the United States marked its hundred-thousandth death since the pandemic began.
Fourteen Florida counties reported a total of 61 new deaths Wednesday over the previous 24-hour period compared to seven new deaths Tuesday, 15 new deaths Monday, four new deaths Sunday, 43 new deaths Saturday, 59 Friday, 51 on Thursday and 43 last Wednesday.
Miami-Dade County reported 22 new deaths Wednesday after not reporting any new deaths a day earlier. Broward County reported five new deaths. Palm Beach County reported five new deaths on a day when the United States reported its hundred-thousandth death.

Lee County reported six new deaths. Pinellas County and Polk County each reported four new deaths. Escambia County reported three new deaths as did Sarasota County.

Charlotte County reported two new deaths as did Duval County and Manatee County. Clay County reported one new death as did Madison County and Osceola County. One Florida county reported one fewer death than Tuesday.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Florida climbed to 52,634, an increase of 464 over the previous 24-hour period.
A total of 29,505 cases — or some 56 percent of Florida's total confirmed cases — were in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties as those three counties continued to reopen. Restaurants in the cities of Miami and Miami Beach reopened Wednesday but beaches remain closed throughout Miami-Dade County until Monday.
Miami-Dade reported 17,225 confirmed cases of the virus as of Wednesday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 6,825 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 5,455 cases.
Florida had a 5.6 percent positive test rate for the virus based on a total of 935,271 tests that had been administered as of Wednesday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 9,639 from 9,482 a day earlier.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 1,995 cases as of Wednesday. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 1,877 cases.
