Girl, 2, Drowns In Anna Maria Pool

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the Tuesday afternoon drowning death of a 2-year-old girl.

ANNA MARIA, FL — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Tuesday afternoon drowning death of a 2-year-old girl.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to the 200 block of Sycamore Avenue in Anna Maria around 1 p.m. July 11. When they arrived, they began lifesaving efforts on Emma Thompson until EMS arrived. The toddler was taken to Blake Hospital, but was pronounced dead, authorities say.

Deputies say the child’s family is vacationing in Anna Maria from Apopka. The girl’s mother, Jaynee Thompson, 37, and the girl’s two siblings were inside. Deputies say Jaynee realized Emma was missing and began looking for her. She was found in the pool.

“At this time, the incident appears to be accidental,” the agency’s email said.
