Horse Sanctuary Hosts Open House Sunday

One of the adantages to living in southwest Florida is access to rural, Old Florida places and events, such as today's free open house today at Sixteen Hands Horse Sanctuary.

The nonprofit is hosting its 2nd Annual Open House at 712 Roy Moore Rd, at the Manatee County line.

See James Malcolm, one of the trainers, work with Chevy, a rescue and wild mustang from out West and several other horses.

This one-of-a-kind event lets people see up close wild horses rescued from western states, where they abused, neglected or designated to be slaughtered.

Folks also have a chance to see the new facility, with 10 stall barns, as well as recent arrivals now in the care of the anctuary and its dedicated volunteers.

There will be great food and upclose encounters with the rescue horses and other fun and educational events.

According to the sanctuary:

"Since 2007, more than 40 horses have been rescued and given a lifetime home by Sixteen Hands Horse Sanctuary. There are currently 25 horses and 2 donkeys living out their lives in peace and tranquility on a 23-acre ranch. Additional horses and ponies have been placed in foster homes. All receive the physical care they need, but just as importantly, they are provided with the love, compassion, and attention some of them have never known."
