Kangaroo Does Well Through Surgery and Laser Treatments
Poppy is a "feisty girl," but needs 24/7 care and enticement to eat. A fund has been set up for her care.
Majical Minatures Animal Education & Care Center is working to rehabilitate a kangaroo that came to their sanctuary last month for foot surgery.
The one-year-old kangaroo, Poppy, arrived in need of foot surgery and long-term care after spending her early life in a cage that was so small she didn't have enough room to grow properly. She had never been able to run and let her tendons and ligaments learn to stretch fully, according to Majical Minatures Animal Education & Care Center.
Now a week after surgery, Poppy is hanging in there, even though she has had little appetite and needs good nutrition for her recovery.

A few days after the surgery she went outside for brief periods to get some fresh air and sunshine, which is critical for her healing.
Her caregivers at Majical Miniatures are cleaning and dressing the kangaroo's feet daily. They are also administering her medications for the infection and pain. She is also getting laser treatments on her feet to help decrease the inflammation, treat the infection and promote healing. They are also looking for new ways to interest her in her food.

Poppy is a full time responsibility needing nearly round the clock care. She is a feisty little girl with a strong will to survive, and her caregivers say she is worth all the effort.
Majical Miniatures continues to raise money for Poppy's care through GulfCoastGives.Org.
