Man Arrested After Backing into Deputy's Truck

The suspect was charged with no valid drivers license and for improper backing.

A Bradenton man was arrested around 2 a.m. Sunday after a deputy said he backed into a parked Manatee County deputy's truck and tried to leave the scene. 

Rupert Garcia-Diaz, 41, was charged with no valid drivers license and for improper backing.

According to the sheriff's office report, two deputies were working an off-duty detail at El-Paisano, 5803 15th St. E when the car was backed into.

Diaz, according to the sheriff's office, was backing out of another parking space when he struck the front a deputy's truck with his rear bumper.

The sheriff's office said both deputies were out of their vehicles at the time of the crash.

Diaz, the report said, attempted to leave but was stopped and arrested. 

The deputy's vehicle sustained approximately $200 damage while Diaz's sustained approximately $300. 

No injuries were reported.
