The Manatee County School District asked high school and middle school students to not bring their backpacks to school on Friday, Feb. 23

BRADENTON, FL - The Manatee County School District asked high school and middle school students to not bring their backpacks to school on Friday, Feb. 23. The school sent out message to parents via a phone call Thursday evening.

Here is the message that parents and students received:

“This is the School District of Manatee County calling with an important message for all middle and high school students and parents.

Due to the high number of school lockdowns and the excessive number of school threats, we are asking that all middle and high school students refrain from bringing backpacks to school tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 23.

We know this might cause an inconvenience to some, but all of the extra stress surrounding our schools this week has had a taxing toll on school administrators and staff, as well as local law enforcement officials.

The Bradenton Herald reported that the restriction was only in effect Friday.
