Relay for Life Redux
Relay for Life events in Bradenton and Palmetto were rained out, so teams from those events will head to Anna Maria Island Saturday to raise money to find a cure for cancer.
These teams will not give up when it comes to finding a cure for cancer.
It's rare for Relay for Life to get rained out, but severe thunderstorms in April put an early end to the marathon events in Bradenton and Sarasota. But that still doesn't mean al of teh teams are ready to give up.
About a half-a-dozen teams from Bradenton and Palmetto will take part in Anna Maria Island's Relay for Life on Saturday. Opening ceremonies are at 1 p.m. at where the Mayor of Anna Maria will present the Power of Purple Day Proclamation, then the suvivor lap and caregiver lap start off Manatee County's last relay of 2012.

Pne team will represent Palmetto's Relay for Life and and six teams will arrive from from Bradenton to join the event on Anna Maria Island. The money raised by those 7 teams will go back to their respective relays. Anna Maria Island teams have alread raised more than $23,000 for Saturday's event.
The Privateers will be at Saturday's event and Sara Bay Dancers will perform at 4 p.m. There will be a luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m.

The 18-hour event will include fun laps and other activities. Teams will sell food, jewelry and other handmade items. There will also be chance drawings and silent auctions.
