Students Learn About Clean Drinking Water Through Magic
Elementary students were treated to a magic show as part of their science lessons.
Students from Kinnan Elementary and Abel Elementary were captivated this week by renowned environmental educator Lynn Hodges as he utilized a bit of magic in his scientific demonstration “Where’s the Water?” The interactive show, sponsored by Lockheed Martin, taught the students the fundamental principles and value of ground water.
Hodges used magic tricks as a teaching tool. He made several balls appear to symbolize duplicating water molecules. He also made a cup levitate while pouring water into it. His presentation entertained the students’ while enlightening them on where water comes from and how to protect it from pollution.
Hodges also used visual demonstrations to explain how scientists filter different types of pollution to make clean drinking water available.

“It’s important for kids to get education at a young age about water being a vital and limited resource,” said Hodges, who developed this program specifically for Lockheed Martin Corporation.
He also presents “Where’s The Water?” near Lockheed Martin’s other environmental restoration sites in California and Maryland.
