Teen Actress Encourages Donations of School Supplies

The Boys and Girls Club will benefit from the back-to-school drive Staples has helped organize

Actress Bella Thorne of Shake it Up fame is working with Staples and DoSomething.org to make sure every student has the supplies they need when the head back to school later this month.

The 5th annual Staples for Students school supply drive encourages Manatee County young people to collect school supplies and drop them off at their nearest Staples store now through September 15. School supplies collected will benefit youth at the to equip them with tools they need to achieve academic success in time for the new school year.

“I’m excited to help motive fellow teens to make a difference in their communities,” Thorne said. “There are so many kids in America who return to school without basic school supplies, and I’m thrilled to team up with Staples and DoSomething.org to encourage teens to lend a hand.”

To kick-start the campaign, Staples will donate $125,000 worth of school supplies to the program this year.  In addition, Staples customers can get involved by donating $1 or more at any Staples store with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County students in need.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County serves over 4,600 youth at six locations (Daughtrey Elementary, Harllee Middle School, Southeast High School, Bradenton, DeSoto and Palmetto Clubs).
