Toddler Killed In Manatee County On Valentine's Day

A 23-month-old girl was killed Valentine's Day when she walked into the path of a Chevrolet Equinox, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

PALMETTO, FL — A 23-month-old girl was killed Valentine's Day when she walked into the path of a Chevrolet Equinox, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Arayah Phillips of Palmetto was struck in the 5500 block of 69th Street East shortly after 11 a.m. Friday.

The driver of the Equinox, 75-year-old Vita Aziz of Palmetto, was heading west on 69th Street East at the time of the incident

Florida Highway Patrol said the child was walking south along a driveway prior to being struck.

"The driver ... was unable to stop prior to striking the pedestrian with the front right corner" of the vehicle," Florida Highway Patrol said.

Aziz was not injured. FHP said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
