Woman Fights Off Alleged Purse Snatcher, IDs Him for Deputies

A 37-year-old Bradenton woman fought off an alleged purse snatcher Friday and then identified him for authorities, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Lisa Kallas had finished a transaction at Advance America Check Cashing, at 4475 14th Street West, on Friday night. She was waiting for a ride outside, when a man allegedly grabbed her shoulder bag from behind, according to deputies.

But Kallas pulled her shoulder bah away from the alleged suspect who then dragged her to the ground, according to deputies.

Kallas held on to her shoulder bag, and the would be purse snatcher ended the struggle and rode away on a bicycle, deputies said.

Kallas called 911, and the responding deputy located suspect Ricardo Ruvalcaba, who was positively identified by Kallas, deputies said. He was arrested and charged with burglary to a conveyance.
