Marauders Create Empty Bowls

Paint and clay might not be the usual tools of professional baseball players. But a contingent from the Bradenton Marauders didn't hesitate to take a lesson in throwing pottery, to create bowls designed to help feed the hungry.

Coach Mike Steele and a half a dozen players got together at ArtCenter Manatee this week and created bowls from raw clay. They got a quick  lesson in using a pottery wheel and then got their hands (and clothes) dirty while shaping the clay into bowls. They also painted and glazed their pottery.

The bowls they created will be sold during two events this fall designed to raise money for the Food Bank of Manatee County. Every year ArtCenter Manatee donates about 1,000 bowls and for the past three years the Marauders have been helping to create bowls to help raise money for hungry families.
