Escaped Pinellas County Jail Inmate Apprehended By Deputies

CLEARWATER, FL — A Pinellas County Jail inmate has been located after escaping from the jail Friday morning.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the Pinellas Central Probation and Parole Office notified the sheriff's office at 10:52 a.m. that an inmate, 21-year-old Daniel Lee Sawyer of St. Petersburg, had escaped from a Florida Department of Corrections probation officer and an Allied Universal Services transport officer during a custody exchange.at the jail at 5201 Ulmerton Road.

Sawyer was being held on a warrant for violating probation.

Deputies said Sawyer ran on foot toward Ulmerton Road with one handcuff still around his right hand.

The sheriff's K9 unit, flight unit and its bloodhound launched a search and finally apprehended Sawyer at 6:25 p.m. Friday.
