Amazing Video of Killer Whales Captured by Lutz Couple

Ron and Laura Howard filmed the impressive video while on a diving trip to La Paz, Mexico.

The video of a pod of killer whales tailgating a boat and playing and jumping In the wake of the vessel was much viewed Friday.

But the tale failed to mention the local connection in some cases. The stunning video was recorded by Lutz resident Laura Howard, who was on the boat for a scuba diving trip near La Paz, Mexico with husband, Ron, according to www.wfla.com.

The sighting of the pod of 20 whales occurred after the group had been in the water among a colony of sea lions for about 25 minutes and divers were then told to climb back on the boat, WFLA reported.

“It was amazing to see them because they were 6-8 inches off the back of the boat. Every time they'd come up for a breath of air, they'd spray you," Rich told WFLA.

The Today Show has video of the whales on YouTube.
