Bagel Sale Kicks Off (Tasty) Fundraising Campaign

Lutz's Big Apple Bagels is selling made-from-scratch bagels for 49 cents Friday, April 26. The event jumpstarts a month-long money-raising campaign for cystic fibrosis.

A local chain eatery is offering up a tasty discount this week — all in the name of fighting a dangerous disease.

Big Apple Bagels is holding its National Bagel Sale Friday, April 26. Customers who patronize the Lutz location (Pasco County side), 23908 State Road 54, can buy bagels for 49 cents each. According to the company, the event jumpstarts the chain’s Great Strides campaign for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“As proud members of the Lutz community, Big Apple Bagels owners Greg Hoop and Keith Brackin are deeply committed to the community they serve and proud to help find a cure for CF,” Big Apple said in a news release.

All through May, the shop, too, will sell Great Strides pin-ups to customers, with 100 percent of the money collected going to the foundation.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, CF affects roughly 30,000 people in the United States. It is an inherited and chronic disease that often clogs the lungs and “obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.”
