4 People Rescued From Sinking Boat In Cutler Bay

Four people were rescued from a boat Saturday by the U.S. Coast Guard in Cutler Bay.

CUTLER BAY, FL — Four people were rescued from a boat Saturday by the U.S. Coast Guard in Cutler Bay. The 21-foot pleasure craft was taking on water about a mile off shore.

"A Coast Guard Station Miami Beach 45-foot Response Boat—Medium boat crew spotted a red flare in the vicinity of Black Point while they were on patrol," the Coast Guard reported.

“These mariners had emergency signaling devices, like flares, which in this case helped our rescue crews locate the disabled vessel in a timely manner,” explained Petty Officer 1st Class Sarah Benton, Sector Miami command duty officer.

“For anyone planning on getting underway, we always recommend that all mariners have emergency equipment aboard, like flares, life jackets, VHF-FM radio and an emergency position indicating radio beacon," she said. "This case highlights how being prepared with emergency equipment saved these mariners from a potential bad situation.”

The vessel was taken to Black Point Marina. No one was injured in the incident.
