PEMBROKE PINES, FL — Four people, including two teenagers, survived a small plane crash Sunday night in South Florida.

The Cessna T337G was approaching the North Perry Airport when it crashed into a tree in the Pine Villages neighborhood around 8 p.m.

The plane caught fire with the pilot, 58-year-old Carlos Calza Cardenas of Weston, and his passengers, including a 16-year-old and a 13-year-old, were still inside, reports said.

Neighbors who lived near where the plane crashed used a sledgehammer to smash open the windows and brought a hose over to spray water on the plane, according to People.

Those who sprung into action included an off-duty first responder, CBS News said.

The street where Sunday’s crash happened on a street named for a 4-year-old, Taylor Bishop, who died when a plane crashed into an SUV in 2021.
