Here are the top stories today in Miami:

1. The 49-story Society Biscayne tower is set to commence pre-leasing on Friday, December 10th at 12 p.m. The building includes 646 rental apartments, 400 Biscayne offices, a 22,000-square-foot redesigned First United Methodist Church of Miami, and more. (The Next Miami)

2. Miami-Dade County Public Schools superintendent Alberto Carvalho is moving on to a new job with Los Angeles Unified School District, according to news reports. In 2018, Carvalho was offered the position of New York City’s schools chancellor but decided to stay in South Florida. (WSVN)

3. A zookeeper was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for child porn possession. 31-year-old Justin David Alban was sentenced in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday and will also be subject to 15 years of supervised release. (Miami Patch)

4. Neighbors in the Silver Lakes community in Miramar were shocked after seeing dead and dying geese in their neighborhood. The concerned residents reached out to the mayor who said the incident violates the city’s ordinance since Miramar is a bird sanctuary city and saying the pest company and the association will receive a notice to appear and could face fines. 5. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Dauntless crew offloaded more than $148 million of illegal narcotics at Base Miami Beach on Tuesday. Nearly 4 tons of cocaine were seized and nine suspected drug smugglers were take into custody. (CBS Miami)
