📰 News we're reading

1. There's been a change in condo sales in South Florida. Here are 5 takeaways (miamiherald.com) — Miami-Dade condo buyers are seeing a mixed market, with affordable units between $200,000 and $400,000 jumping 21% even as overall condo sales slipped nearly 4%. Prices for condos countywide are down about 10% over the past year, while luxury and cash-heavy international purchases are surging and nearby Broward shows similar patterns.

2. More teeny-tiny apartments are coming to Miami. Here are 5 takeaways (miamiherald.com) — Miami officials have signed off on a 42‑story Brickell tower packed with more than 1,000 apartments, including nearly 600 micro units as small as 320 square feet. About 40% of the units are designated affordable for middle‑income earners, with limited parking and a transit‑oriented design that’s drawing both praise for housing options and concern over traffic and the open garage look.

3. Man caught on video breaking into Miami Beach deli, damaging camera and window, police say (cbsnews.com) — A man was arrested after surveillance video captured him breaking into Fleisch 41, a deli on 41st Street in Miami Beach, and causing more than $1,500 in damage. The manager credits a quick call from a neighboring business and a fast Miami Beach police response, and says extra patrols are now watching the area.

4. This Miami-area city was founded by Russian circus dwarves. Get the backstory (miamiherald.com) — Sweetwater’s quirky origin story is rooted in Miami-Dade history, starting when a Russian circus troupe’s car overheated on the Tamiami Trail and they fell in love with the area. With help from a Coral Gables developer betting on Miami’s westward growth, they officially incorporated Sweetwater in 1941, laying the groundwork for today’s 20,000-resident city.

5. Stolen Porsche belonging to man behind ‘Sell to Bobby' left at Miami Gardens home (nbcmiami.com) — Detectives recovered a stolen Porsche and other vehicles from the backyard of a Miami Gardens home on Christmas morning, weeks after a South Florida real estate figure reported his car taken during a home break-in. The homeowner says a friend left the cars there and insists he didn’t know they were stolen, while police have not yet announced any arrests.
