Charges Pending Following Wild Police Chase And Carjacking

Charges were pending Friday against two men in connection with a wild police chase, multi-vehicle crash and carjacking, according to police.

MIAMI, FL — Charges were pending Friday against two men in connection with a wild police chase, multi-vehicle crash and carjacking. The two were identified as 33-year-old Tyrell Ladarvis Smith of Miami and 29-year-old Alex Tyrone Brown of Miramar.

Detective Chris Thomas said the incident unfolded around 5:17 p.m. Thursday in the area of NW 79th Street and NW 30th Avenue. That's when detectives with the Robbery Intervention Detail spotted a car that was believed to be connected to a number of robberies, burglaries and thefts.

"The vehicle fled from detectives and caused a multi-vehicle crash on NW 49th Street and 12th Avenue," said Thomas. "Two males exited the subject vehicle, carjacked a female, and continued to flee from police."

The carjacking victim was identified as 29-year-old Ashley Horton.

Miami-Dade police took the men into custody with assistance from Miami police at NW 51st Street and 12th Avenue, according to police.

"The subjects were in possession of multiple personal items belonging to victims of previous crimes," said Thomas.

Thomas said Smith was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with minor injuries suffered during the crash.

"None of the drivers of the other vehicles were seriously injured," Thomas added. "Both subjects will be charged accordingly."
