Rodriguez said earlier that a Miami Beach police officer heard the initial shots and was the first to arrive in the 200 block of Española Way.

"A potential subject vehicle was located not far from the scene. While another fled," Rodriguez said. "A pursuit ensued. Our officer witnessed an occupant display a firearm from within the vehicle and later lost sight of that vehicle. A third vehicle was located near 83 Street and Collins Avenue which also fled. This resulted in a pursuit where two MBPD vehicles were involved in a crash near 91 Street and Harding Avenue."

Rodriguez said the officers suffered minor injuries in the crash. The suspects got away.
