1. In the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metropolitan area, a total of 18,837 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19, equal to 310 fatalities for every 100,000 people. That is above the national average of 259 deaths per 100,000. Miami-Dade County has had the most COVID-19 fatalities per capita. (24/7 Wall St.)
2. New details in the resignation of FIU President Mark Rosenberg have emerged. Rosenberg’s resignation followed a complaint filed against him alleging sexual harassment, according to a source briefed on the matter. The source says, “there is an internal massive investigation into this." (CBS Miami)
3. Diners were eating outside Flip Flops Dockside Eatery in Fort Lauderdale when a portion of the deck fell. At least three adults swam to a nearby boat at the dock and were pulled from the water by other people. A representative who answered the restaurant’s phone Saturday said they could not comment on the incident. (WFTV)
4. A mural to honor Emilio and Gloria Estefan’s legacy in Miami was unveiled as part of non-profit KCULL Life Foundation's project that aims to keep Cuban-American history alive in Little Havana. The foundation has also made a mural in the past of Cuban legend Celia Cruz. (NBC Miami)
5. "The Choir of Man" is coming to Miami from London's West End on Saturday, January 29th at 8 p.m. The critically-acclaimed musical show will feature 90 minutes of entertainment – with a real working bar on stage at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (SMDCAC). (Miami's Community News)
