MIAMI BEACH, FL — First responders removed an elderly passenger from a cruise ship Thursday night about 7.5 miles southeast of Government Cut, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. The passenger apparently suffered a medical emergency.

"Mother Nature cooperated with the fireboat crew, as the light wind conditions and calm seas allowed them to quickly transfer the patient from the cruise ship onto the fireboat safely," explained a spokesperson for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Fireboat 21 took the passenger to PortMiami where a ground unit then took the passenger to a local hospital.
