WEST PARK, FL — The Broward County Sheriff's Office said it was investigating the death of an infant who was found unresponsive in a home Thursday where other infants and toddlers were being cared for. The child was identified as two-month-old Ashton Petion of Hallandale Beach.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office told reporters that investigators were attempting to determine if the home was being operated as an unlicensed daycare center.

"Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported the little boy to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood where he died," a spokesperson for the sheriff's office explained.

The sheriff's office said that a 9-1-1 call was placed shortly after 3 p.m. The caller said that a two-month-old child was not breathing. The home is located in the 4600 block of Southwest 22nd Street in the city of West Park.

The spokesperson said that the other children in the home were permitted to leave with their parents.
