Florida Governor Makes Second Supreme Court Pick
Less than a week after appointing the first Hispanic woman to the Florida Supreme Court, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his 2nd pick.

MIAMI, FL — Less than a week after appointing the first Hispanic woman to the Florida Supreme Court, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his second pick on Monday, tapping Judge Robert Luck of Miami to the state's high court.
"Today, it is my distinct privilege to appoint Robert Luck to the Florida Supreme Court," said DeSantis on Monday. "Justice Luck is an outstanding jurist who will uphold our Constitution and the rule of law in our state."

Last week DeSantis named Barbara Lagoa of Miam to the Florida Supreme Court to fill the first of three openings caused by mandatory retirements. Monday's announcement was made at the Scheck Hillel Community School in Miami.

Luck has served on the Third District Court of Appeal since March of 2017. Before that he served on the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida from September 2013 to March 2017, and presided over the Criminal, Civil and Appellate Divisions.

He was sworn in on Monday by Lagoa as friends and family looked on. News reports said Luck attended the Scheck Hillel Community School as a boy.
After his appointment to the circuit court in 2013, Luck was elected by voters of Miami-Dade County to retain his seat in 2016.
Before becoming a jurist, Luck was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Miami, where he was assigned to the Appeals, Major Crimes and Economic Crimes Sections of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Earlier in his career, Luck was a legislative correspondent for two U.S. senators, a law clerk and staff attorney to Circuit Judge Edward E. Carnes on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and a part of the Greenberg Traurig firm’s appellate section.
Judge Luck received his law degree from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude.
He also served as editor-in-chief of the Florida Law Review. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Florida.
Born and raised in Miami-Dade County, Luck graduated from North Miami Beach Senior High School. He is married with two children.
