Hialeah Terrible For New Year's Resolutions
Hialeah's score was weighed down by an overall lack of exercise among city adults.

HIALEAH, FL — Many of us start out the New Year year with good intentions — lose weight, get out of debt, stress less — but some cities are apparently more conducive to making good on those New Year's resolutions than others. Hialeah finished near the bottom of the list, ranking 174 out of 180 U.S. cities, according to a new study by personal finance website WalletHub. Miami ranked 33rd.
The website measured each city by 52 key indicators to arrive at its rankings. The factors ranged from gyms per person, income growth and employment outlook.
Hialeah's score was weighed down by an overall lack of exercise among city adults, ranking 171 out of 180 cities in terms of the highest percentage of adults not exercising. The city also ranked 98th in terms of park acres per person and 182nd for lowest median income.

"It’s easy to make New Year’s resolutions. The hard part is keeping them," WalletHub concluded. "But before you blame yourself entirely for your previous lack of success, consider this: Your location may be setting you up for failure."
The website blamed high failure rates on things like a lack of sidewalks and fitness centers.

"If you live in a neighborhood with no sidewalks or fitness centers nearby, for example, you may not feel as encouraged to exercise," the study found. "The same goes if most of your restaurant options are limited to fast food: You may be less likely to eat healthy on days you dine out. These might sound like excuses to the boldest resolvers, but they genuinely can impede a person’s progress at self-improvement, especially if motivation is low to begin with."
Seattle topped the list of cities that are most conducive to keeping New Year's resolutions followed by San Francisco; San Diego; Scottsdale, Arizona and Salt Lake City, Utah. Cities with the worst rankings include Gulfport, Mississippi; Shreveport, Lousiana; Newark, New Jersey; Jackson, Mississippi and Detroit.
"Estimates of the resolution failure rate vary from 42 percent to 92 percent," according to WalletHub, "Regardless of the actual figure, a high number of people will fail at some point in the process and break the usual resolutions, such as 'lose weight,' 'save more' and 'stress less.'”
