Immigration Protesters Snarl Miami Rush Hour Traffic

Immigration protesters shut down a downtown Miami intersection during the evening rush hour on Wednesday.

MIAMI, FL — Immigration protesters shut down a busy Miami intersection during the evening rush hour on Wednesday, according to Miami police. Protesters wanted to send a message to Congress to act soon to protect the undocumented immigrants known as dreamers. They also were protesting the planned end to Temporary Protected Status for Haitians in 2019.

Officer Michael Vega of the Miami Police Department told Patch that about 100 to 120 protesters turned out during the evening rush hour.

"Brickell Avenue was temporarily blocked by immigration protesters," Vega explained. "The officers on the scene directed them into Brickell Park just for safety because they were on top of the Brickell Bridge and they obviously stopped traffic.
