Here are the top stories in Miami today:
1. Students at Miami-Dade County Public Schools are no longer required to wear face masks if their parents don’t want them to, due to a decline in COVID-19 cases. Opt-out forms for parents will be available on Wednesday and the mandatory mask protocol will no longer be in place starting Friday. Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said if conditions change they may reintroduce a mandate in the future. (WPLG Local 10)

2. Economic Surge: Retail sales at Brickell City Centre are surging this year and are up 101% over the same period in 2020. Mall tenants have leased or signed letters of intent for 98% of space at the shopping center. (The Next Miami)
3. Florida filed a lawsuit against President Joe Biden’s administration on Tuesday claiming his immigration policy is illegal. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and Governor Ron DeSantis held a joint conference attacking the White House. DeSantis also signed several policies including one ordering law enforcement agencies to gather information on the identities of any immigrants said to be arriving illegally in Florida from the Mexico border. 4. A new mutation of the Delta COVID-19 variant called AY.4.2. and sometimes Delta plus is spreading worldwide and it's now in Florida, among other states. Scientists are monitoring the variant. (Florida Phoenix)
5. Florida is set to benefit from the Infrastructure Bill passed last week in Congress. The White House says Florida will receive $13.1 billion for highway programs, $2.6 billion to improve public transportation, $1.6 billion for water improvements, a minimum of $100 million to expand broadband coverage that will provide internet access to at least 707,000 Floridians, and more.
