MIAMI BEACH, FL — Miami Beach police are searching for a woman who may have information in the fatal hit-and-run death of a bicyclist along the MacArthur Causeway earlier this month.

Investigators on Tuesday released surveillance images of the woman seen walking with a male companion prior to the Aug. 10 crash that claimed the life of the bicyclist. Police identified the man as a possible suspect in the case.

The agency's Ernesto Rodriguez told Patch that traffic homicide investigators have identified the man in the images but have been unable to identify the woman.

"Miami Beach PD’s traffic homicide investigators are looking to identify a woman who may have information on the fatal hit and run that occurred Saturday, Aug. 10th just after 1:20 a.m. along the MacArthur Causeway," according to Rodriguez.

Police released surveillance video of the couple captured by city cameras at 15 Street and Collins Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 9 as well as video taken just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 10 as the couple returned to the garage where police believe the vehicle involved in the crash had been parked.

Investigators recovered the vehicle from the crash but have not filed any charges in the case. The crash occurred along the westbound lanes of the causeway, which connects South Beach with downtown Miami.

"A vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed attempted to bypass traffic as all the lanes were occupied," Rodriguez said shortly after the incident. "The driver went on to the shoulder and bicycle lane of the causeway where they unfortunately struck and killed a cyclist before fleeing the scene."

To report a tip, call Miami Dade Crime Stoppers at 305.471.TIPS. The identity of the bicyclist killed in the crash had not been released by Miami Beach police as of Tuesday pending next of kin notification.
