MIAMI BEACH, FL — An arrest has been made in the case of a woman who was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance in a Miami Beach hotel room earlier this week, Miami Beach police said on Saturday morning.

Police said the same man, identified as 24-year-old Shane Bayne of the 1400 block of NW 100th Street in Miami, is suspected in armed robberies that occurred in Doral and Broward County. He was charged in Miami Beach with sexual battery with a deadly weapon.

"He is currently being interviewed at MBPD," Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department said on Saturday morning. "Both Doral police and BSO have been notified and will follow up on their investigations."

"The man was captured early this morning after several hours of surveillance," Rodriguez said on Saturday.

Miami Beach police released surveillance images of the man from the Miami Beach hotel camera and from Broward County.

In the Miami Beach incident, the female victim told police she met the man on the beach after checking into her hotel and exchanged phone numbers.

The man called a short time later and the woman agreed to meet him at her hotel.

"She invited him to her room and during their conversation she was 'down to have sex' with him," said a police report.

But the woman changed her mind when she found out that the man did not have a condom and she refused to have sex with him.

"The male got very upset and angry at her," the police report said. "He started insulting her and calling her names," the report explained. "At some point, the male grabbed her with both hands around the neck and started to choke her while both were sitting on the bed."

The victim told police that the man pushed her down and pinned her arms as he choked and raped her.

He let her use the restroom and when she came back, he pointed a black handgun at her and made a demand that the woman said she did not understand.

"She started fighting with the male. She remembered pulling his hair and breaking her nails during the altercation," the police report said. "Somehow, she managed to open the door and she saw one employee from the hotel outside. She also saw the male running out while yelling."
